Currently we are developing Resporter. Resporter is a new social media platform for football players playing at an amateur level. The Resporter platform has an online website and a mobile app.

Players and fans can post comments and pictures during the match. Also actions like yellow cards and goals can be added during the match. Members of Resporter can follow teams, clubs, players and competitions to stay up to date about everything that is going on around the football fields.

Resporter connects to Twitter and Facebook to make an easy integration possible and to keep Twitter and Facebook friends up-to-date. Whenever a player scores a goal, the goal is already mentioned on the players Facebook before the players leaves the football field.

Resporter is currently focusing on the 1 million amateur football players in the Netherlands, but aims at expanding to other sports and/or countries within a short time span.

FashionWall pilot

This week, IntoApps will start a pilot of its new product: FashionWall. FashionWall allows retailers to display its collection on in-store screens or in the shopping window. Using a mobile app or website, visitors of the store and by-passers can instantly order products from the webshop. This integrates the bricks and clicks world, and allows the retailer to turn the store into a real life webshop after closing hours. Also, FashionWall makes store windows social by displaying social media messages and likes, resulting in more online attention for the brands and the collection. Not only can people interact using a mobile phone, through the use of Kinect it is possible to swype through the products by using hand gestures.

Tomorrow, FashionWall will start a pilot in the city center of Tilburg. Shortly afterwards we will start enrolling this new innovation among large scale retailers and brands.

FashionWall is a new product innovation based on the previous product LiveWall. LiveWall is a tool to display social media content on screens during events or as a narrowcasting solution. LiveWall is used by large B2C companies like RedBull, Nokia etc, but also for B2B purposes like for ABN AMRO, Rabobank and for example Deloitte.

Keep your customers happy

Keeping the customer happy. Most companies know the importance of this simple rule. But what do customers want? In our experience customers want to feel at ease they don’t want to worry. Hence, they want to be able to access real time information whenever they want it and through the channel they want it. Let your customers choose themselves if they want to track & trace their containers from a computer at work, on their ipad in the evening or on their mobile phone while waiting to catch a plain.

2. Saving Costs

It’s more important than ever for shipping businesses to operate cost efficiently. Wise companies are busy implementing business intelligence tools that save costs along the process. Strategic web and mobile apps can make processes more efficient and a relatively low investment is needed. Did you know that some of the companies have 70% online booking rates whilst others don’t offer the possibility to book online at all. Imagine the costs you can save by going digital with bookings.

3. Apps shout: ‘We’re a strong brand, we’re innovative’

The shipping industry is quite a traditional business. Nevertheless, there’s a strong desire to innovate. Apps are considered innovative, fresh and are associated with healthy profitable business. Hence, they’re a great company branding tool an attract business instantly!

4. Anytime, anywhere

Our clients in the shipping industry notice that their customers want to track and trace their containers anytime, anywhere. We live in a society in which information is accesible everywhere. It seems old fashioned and inefficient having to login on a computer or to pick up a phone to track & trace a container. And imagine the costs that businesses can save on customer service expenses.

5. Mobile is taking off

The last reason has nothing to do with shipping but everything with the world we live in. We live in a mobile world, the app revolution is happening and ,obile is moving incredibly fast. The mobile web is growing 8 times faster than the web based web did at the same stage of development. The app store reached 10 billion downloads. The amount of smartphones sold increases every day. To sum up, businesses evolve, so will the shipping industry.

Why develop mobile apps?

A recent benchmark by Seaintel Maritime of the 53 biggest shipping company shows that 87% of the large shipping companies does not have a mobile solution. Seaintel foresees an increasing market “Based on developments in other industries, it appears inevitable that the carriers’ customers will increasingly want easy mobile solutions at their disposal”.

In the article special attention is paid to Safmarine:

“As a side note, it will be interesting to see if anything changes regarding Safmarine’s mobile website and apps once their internal support and management functions are integrated into those of its sister company, Maersk Line, as a consequence of the closure of the Safmarine headquarter functions in Antwerp. As it stands now, Maersk Line‟s mobile device offering is not up to par with Safmarine’s.”

This week Bizzsms launched two new mobile applications.

Safmarine

The iPhone app of Safmarine, a subdivision of the A.P. Moller - Maersk group, was accepted by Apple by Friday evening. Safmarine is an international shipping business offering container and break-bulk shipping services worldwide and has over 200 offices worldwide.

The application offers the following functions:

Search for Schedules: select a from/to location and display all possible sailing schedules.

Track and trace: track the current container location of a booking. Also using the hotlist the users get automatic notification upon changes.

Agencies: find the most nearby Safmarine agency or find by search term

News: the latest Safmarine news

Heyello for Android

The second application that was launched was the Heyello! application for Android. Bizzsms developed the iPhone application before for postcard company DmCards and now there is an Android version of the same application. The application allows users to send a postcard by regular mail from their Android device. Users can select a picture, add a frame and add text to personalize their postcards.

Within two business days the postcard reaches it’s destination.
The Blackberry version of the application is soon to come.

The latest version of the Android SDK has full support for NFC functionalities.
NFC means Near Field Communication and allows mobile phones to communicate to nearby objects. Chances are that if you buy a smartphone towards the end of this year, and most certainly in 2012, it will be equipped with a NFC chip. This technological advancement introduces a new era in mobile communication as it allows mobile payments, location based mobile advertising and communication with local objects to launch a URL, call a number, open a map to a location or launch an application.

The NFC chip will replace all of the cards in your wallet and is expected to be the future payment medium. Google focussed their API on mobile payments and is working with MasterCard and Citigroup on a near field communication (NFC) based mobile payments system.

Even though the technology has been around for a long time it’s only now that the large scale introduction is announced. The long delay has been a result of the economic crisis in combination with the large shifts in the operators - software - hardware powerfield. Now one of the major players, Google, included the NFC technology the technological shift finally takes place.

As happened with all previous technological developments it will take a long time for the leading design to emerge. The next period will be dominated by a power struggle among the big players in the ecommerce and payment playing field to gain the largest market share. As it took almost a decade to introduce the new PIN card in the Netherlands, it might also take as long for mobile payment to be fully supported.
