Foursquare is a location based social network. Users check in on their current position and friends can see your current location. Domino’s Pizza claims that its mobile program via Foursquare has contributed to a 28.6 percent increase to the online profit across Britain. In its earnings release Domino’s said it has been increasing its online activity to grow this sector of its customer base. The company attributed the 28.6 percent growth of its online sales, which now total 17.5 million Euros, to its Facebook site that boasts more than 36,000 fans, affiliate marketing and the FourSquare program. “All of these Web-based activities offer a dual benefit of driving pizza sales online and building customer loyalty with this section of the community,” the company said in its earnings release. “We are delighted to see the results of this activity with online sales rising to 32.7 percent of all UK-delivered orders.”

Starbucks and Foursquare

Foursquare is a location based mobile application which allows users to check in on their favorite locations. By checking in all of the friends of the person can see that a certain person has checked in and users can also earn points (badges) by checking in.
This real-life location based “game” is a big hit. Currently foursquare has half a million users.
Starbucks starts cooperating with foursquare by granting users who check in at Starbucks an extra badge. Starbucks wants to start giving regular customers which use Foursquare extra offers in the physical store too.
Coffee shops have always been very active in mobile strategy and this seems like a new step in the right direction.
